Arti Walker-Peddakolta is a Candidate for Oak Park Village Trustee, Senior Product Manager at a non-profit tech company, former Microbiologist (M.S. in Microbiology and Immunology), and a US Army veteran. Outside of her work in tech, Arti advocates for the empowerment of women and underrepresented groups in STEM and is a co-organizer of Ela Conf, a conference for adult women (cis and trans), trans men, and genderqueer people in tech that empowers them to become leaders in tech. Arti’s political work spans policy and activism. Arti worked as policy director for Sameena Mustafa, a progressive candidate for Congress in Illinois's 5th district in 2018. Arti is a leader with Veterans for American Ideals (VFAI), a nonpartisan project of Human Rights First, a Defense Council member of Truman National Security Project, and an organizer with Common Defense. Arti is the founder of OPRF for Racial Equity, a group that supports women of color running for local office. Arti lives in the Chicago suburbs with her family, where she loves to garden, knit, bake like Ina Garten, and is always found starting a new home improvement project.
