Arti Walker-Peddakotla (she/they) is a William H. Hastie Fellow at the University of Wisconsin Law School, movement lawyer, and community organizer. Arti currently serves as Board Chair of AboutFace: Veterans Against the War, is an advisory board member of Lucy Parsons Labs, a C4 Board Member for Grassroots Global Justice Alliance and is Co-Chair of the Public Safety Steering Committee for Local Progress, where she previously was a board member. As a former local elected official, and cofounder of community organizing group Freedom to Thrive Oak Park, Arti organized abolitionist efforts in Oak Park, IL to fight against the use of carceral technology, defund the police, and remove police from schools. As a law student at Loyola University of Chicago School of Law Arti co-created the LAW156: Abolition and Movement Lawyering course. Arti’s previous work includes: 2022 Soros Justice Fellow, Oak Park Village Trustee, Director of Engineering and Senior Product Manager. Arti served in the U.S. Army, active duty from 2000-2006. Arti has a J.D., M.S. in Microbiology and Immunology, and a B.S. in Biology. Arti’s writing has been featured in the Law and Political Economy Blog, New York Times, Common Dreams, and Newsweek. Arti is dedicated to building a world where we all have the freedom to thrive.
